A Bit of a Sprint
Four days.
My luggage finally came back to me yesterday, and no, they wouldn't deliver it. We drove into Logan (which is the Heart of Darkness, just in case you were wondering) and I left the mini-van in park next to a No Parking sign with Husband and The Boy inside, while I sprinted in, dodged the fidgeting people from the Denver flight waiting at the bottom of a rotating but empty carousel, and slipped into the service office. They practically threw it at me, they were so ready to get it out of there, and I serpentined back across the baggage claim area (no progress on the Denver flight situation) with that huge Hawaiian print duffel slung over my back loaded down with party shoes, Christmas presents, and four days worth of children's books (I only whacked one small child in the head with it), ran out the doors into traffic, and made it back to my car before the jack-boot parking storm trooper could make the Husband circle the whole bloody airport because "There's no parking in the arrivals area!" All in about 90 seconds.
Whew.
So I am re-united with the pirate hat yarn, and I have four days. I haven't knit an adult version of the pirate hat yet, so this will be a bit of a sprint, and I only have one chance to get it right, or at least right enough for the 16-year-old to like it well enough. It had better work too, because other than a pirate hat, a couple of packs of Magic cards, and a Terry Pratchett novel, I got nothing. Ther's a lot riding on this one. Wish me luck.

Logan just plain sucks. Sounds like you were lucky to be in and out so quick. Good luck on the pirate hat.

They wouldn't deliver it? Great customer service, huh?

i can kind of understand why they didn't deliver it. it wasn't their fault. glad to hear you are reunited with your stuff though and that the boy was able to actually go back to the airport without incident.

I have confidence in you! Having made one hat already, you know what works well and what you should try differently this time. So this hat could be even nicer than the first.

This is kind of a weird idea, but building on Maryse's comment: maybe you could take The Boy to Logan someday just to watch the planes take off and land? There is a corridor, I think in the new terminal (I think I can get specifics), where you can sit and watch planes (and people do). Maybe if he gets used to the idea, and sees how many planes take off/land daily, he'll be cool with flying.
Good luck with the pirate hat!

Deadline knitting AND felting? I think I'm getting faint......

Hey, Terry Pratchett novels are worth a lot, present-wise!

Yeah, those Magic cards are too. I have a 37 year old "teenager". He plays that as well as the Highlander card game, (based on the 80's movie, 90's tv series), collects comic books, loves video games, etc. (Do you know how hard it was to get an Xbox 360 this year-poo,poo Microsoft with their global rollout!) What can I say? Atleast he's home with his hobbies, not at a poker table all night, etc. I am anxious to see how the hat turns out. I am thinking about one of those for my 6 year old, but not for Christmas!

You risked letting your car STAND in a pick up only zone? You are a bold and fearless woman.
The parking police are usually on one like fleas to a dog if one so much as pauses to hug your arriving friend before you fling the luggage and the guest willy nilly in the trunk and move, move, move your vehicle out of the zone.
Hawaiian print duffle, huh? I've opted for mango yellow as instantly recognizable, but tropical prints would work too. I just don't want to add to the legions of identical black and navy bags. It seems wrong.

I can't agree with you more about Logan. In fact, I'm feeling a bit anxious right now just thinking about flying in there in February.
