Bird In Hand Mittens

Img_6722I'm working through the second sleeve on Arwen, (I. so. want. to. wear. that. sweater) and I've knit a little more on the Bird in Hand mitten. I like the clarity of white and plum (Cascade 220 #8885, for those who had to know.  Purple can get to you like that.  I understand.), but thought I'd take this opportunity to try out intarsia in the round with one of the flowers.  It's a bit fussy, carrying the other two yarns behind and all, but I like the result very much.  I am planning on knitting the second flower in the white, but then reversing the order for the second mitten.  It's a lovely pattern, and Kate has them up for sale already.  Care to join me?

I like what you're doing here - the colors you've chosen, the opportunity to learn intarsia in the round, and the pattern itself is just lovely! I've got a bit of a mitten fever myself, so I'll be watching your progress closely!

Love how you added in the purple! I just got this pattern the other day and I'm going to be starting it this week I hope. I'll be keeping an eye on yours!

It is a great pattern and I plan on knitting them, too.

I love the colors you've chosen, and that is a lovely pattern. I'm going to have to go investigate intarsia in the round, that sounds like it could be a very useful technique to have in one's arsenal.

Those mittens are tempting me as well. Had I not enough color work to do...

I've got the yarn and the pattern for these mittens ... just have a few other things to finish before I cast on.

Yep, they're in the queue.

ohh, I like your flower mod! and I totally love that pattern, Kate hit another homerun with that one. :)

Beautiful colors! I started a pair yesterday - such fun. I love your intarsia flower idea.

I'm in. Have the pattern. Need to decide the yarn- Cascade 220 vs Ultra Alpaca- probably the latter. Love the lilac flower!

They are looking great! I love the pattern. Sadly I am not a mitten wearer. Do you think that there is some sort of program that can get me over that? LOL

Love the mitten, esp. the purple. Very nice.

I had to cast on for these yesterday; I just couldn't help it. They are soooooo beautiful. I'm making them for my sister, but in the new year I hope to make a pair for myself.

Nice color combo.

Very nice! Yes, purple totally ravishes me: I think my favorite LYSO tells all her staff whenever she sees me coming: Pssst! Show her the new purple stuff! (You will note that the yarn I am giving away in my current contest is *not* purple.)

I'd be tempted to do the flower in duplicate st.

Oh that sounds like a triple dog dare...hmmm. I just did my first ever fair isle hat. Think it's too soon to do mittens??

First I need to get Wintergreen out of my system. And to start that I have to finish the Xmas knitting. So I will probably get to start these in 2009 or so, sigh.

I have my pattern but I still need to pick out some yarn. Inspiration hasn't struck yet.

Already queued and boughten. Love your colors. May have to be a complete copycat.

Way to take a perfectly lovely pattern and....improve upon it.
I'll be joining in, too.
