Swatch Sweater: Neck

Img_7663

It's almost.  Not quite.  Needs more . . . something.  Longer bridge to the shoulder seam.  Maybe?  Garter stitch edging. Not rib.  No, not that.  How about reverse stockinette that curls.  Or not.  But, well? uh.  Thinking . . .

Comments

Seed stitch? Ribbing will "muddy" the lovely architecture of these cables. Small i-cord? Play with edgings on your swatch. Love the color.

I was thinking i-cord as well...nice finish, unobtrusive, in keeping with the design.

I like the i-cord idea too!

I'd try the rev st st, or maybe icord. How about a very narrow stockinette hem? Eh, probably not.

Remember that cool cable-ish edging on that bulky cardi I wore to spinning a while back? Its crochet, but it looks really cool and might work for you. Linky here: http://www.woolywonder.com/classpages/crabby/crabstitchlesson.htm

I think a smallish icord would be equally good.

What shape sleeves are you going to make? I agree with the i cord idea, but I am not 100% sure. It needs a neckline, but it needs to be a strong, clean, smooth neckline.

Ooh, I was all about the garter stitch until I read the comments about i-cord. And now that sounds tailored and classy and perfect.

I was going to suggest i-cord too. I think it would nicely reflect the look of the narrower part of the cables.

It's going to be a stunning sweater.

I cord. Echo the rib with that roundness. I thought it even before reading the opinions of all these other, clearly brilliant, folk.

Perhaps a plain crocheted edging is all this sweater needs at the neck, for a finished look without distracting from those gorgeous cables? That, or a single-color knit braid like the braids found on Estonian or Latvian mittens?

That is soooo pretty! No suggestions about edges, but lots of confidence that the finished product will be quite lovely.

I vote for either I cord or garter stitch. Narrow though, small. Not much border. I love the shape of that neck.

I say Garter stitch. That would look neat and tidy, and classy. I'm not sold on the i-cord idea...(*duck*)

I have a list of books for you from my friend- a children's librarian. Now if only I could find the list! I'll email you when I come across it.

I agree with the majority, i cord. It seems like the best border idea that I can visualize.

My vote is the small i-cord. i think it will suit the cables at the cross. What does the bottom edge look like? If it is rev stockinette then that might be a choice too.

Very classy! 'Twas me, I'd try either the I-cord or crab stitch. ;)

ooh, i-cord. yes! And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way the cables were worked out on that neckline. By 'longer bridge to the shoulder seam' do you mean more space betwen the last reverse diamond and the shoulder seam? I think I'd like that...I also think it would mean a slightly lower neckline and the diamonds hitting at mid-point bust instead of above bust, which I also wouldn't mind. But then again, I also like it where it is. Is this something you're going to publish, maybe? Hmmm, hmmm, hmmm?

If it were mine, I might try a few lines of welting. If it didn't work out, I'd go to i-cord, but I'm not quite convinced within myself that i-cord will have enough weight to serve as a capital to that central cable element. Welting might give the roundness and the balance at once.

It's glorious, and I can't wait to see what you decide on!

I'm still thinking icord to mirror the rounded cables, but extended, somehow from the two narrow cables that flank the middle rows, to ties that would form a keyhole effect there at the middle. Hmm, most of the other cables would meld right into an icord edge except that part right at the shoulder. Well.....however you resolve this, I'll be interested to see what you devise.

So pretty! Kudos, shaping the neck on a new design is always my most fustrating part.

Just a suggestion - can't really see the shoulder well - Decrease in the cable as you are binding off. The decrease will keep the cable from flaring out.
