I'm in that weird between-seasons place with the knitting. I have promised myself to fill in the large gap in my wardrobe that is summer-appropriate knitwear this year, but I have Vivien on the needles. I'm scared to put Vivien down because I have already experienced Gauge-Creep with the second sleeve. That's a real thing, Gauge Creep. Look it up in the Knitter's Diagnostic Manual on page 172: "A change in stitch size over the course of a project that can be the result of inexperience, pub-knitting, or lapsed project time (see LPT, page 215). I knit sleeve #1 as a kind of swatch, went on the the body, and when I started in on the second sleeve, found that my gauge had tightened up a whole needle size worth.
Eeep.
so after 12 inches of cable-intensity in cramped conditions (such as are Aran sleeves), I cast on for a new sleeve, and I've almost reached the end of the increases. Again.
This is what Vivien looks like right now:
It resembles some kind of kinky garment at the moment, but I'm cool with that.
Meanwhile, I was ambushed at by this project:
It's Tink's Twirly Skirt (ravelry link). The thing I love so much about the yarn shop Yarns in the Farms is how contagious their shop patterns are. To browse there is to be besotted by whatever Jill or Carolyn are wearing that day. The Twirly Skirt had escaped my notice for awhile (I am a bit cynical on the subject of knitted skirts), but one of their regular customers came in wearing it as a freshly finished object to prance about. It was flattering, very fun and flippy, and suddenly like a blue bolt from heaven, I had to have one too. I'm putting my own spin on it by knitting it in three colors of Euroflax (read: couldn't make up my mind), and I'm on the third tier, which has about as much knitting in it as the skirt so far. So I'm just past halfway, and enjoying the vanilla-flavored stockinette as an alternative to the cable intensity of Vivien. Which one will be finished first?
