I'm gearing up for the cast-on for the Hat for Jorge. I'm still on the fence, divided between Judy's suggestion of Cailyn Meyer's Fireflake and my original idea of Turn a Square. I think I may swatch a little and see which one really grabs me. Thinking of hats makes me a little itchy for one myself, mostly because the Middle Child made off with my favorite hat that I knit only last winter:
which is fine with me because it looked fantastic on her. I feel like most hats make my head look too pointy, so I've been on a pretty fruitless search. Last week, the bottom of my current sweater project gave me an idea:
(doesn't everyone try their sweaters on their heads?)
I liked the horizontal ribs and thought they added some body to the fabric that I'd like in a hat. So using that idea, I cast on for a generously sized slouchy thing and knit it extra deep so the fabric can be played with, either by turning up the brim or flopping it to the side, depending on how I'm wearing my hair.
Here's it's just flipped up in the back, but it's a really versatile thing. I'm having a lot of fun playing with it.
Now back to Jorge.
