I almost swallowed my oatmeal the wrong way when I saw this commercial Friday morning for the HP Officejet Pro printer. Put your knitter hat on when you watch it and see if you see what I saw:
Let's break it down, shall we?
Look at those sleeves! (he has a cabled sweater in inside out, it's probably warmer that way)
Look at the Lopapeysa! With chickens!
and this one:
and this one:
the kids wear Noro:
And yellow!
(I love it, gathering around the laser printer as the new family hearth)
The mom has a great sweater on too,
note the colored jeans! So on-trend.
And in case you missed it, Iceland! If you were thinking from all the knitters traffic in that direction this summer that Iceland is suddenly the place to be, you might be right!
Evidence?
and this authentic looking bulletin board:
That little notice is for The Herring Guesthouse in Siglufjordur, the northernmost town in Iceland (which is where I think this ad was filmed). It's a real thing: the homemade ad, the notice board, the town. The whole commercial is steeped in authenticity, thanks in large part to the knits. I am going to go watch it again.
For many reasons, this makes me happy.
This is one ad that I didn't mind watching. I really liked the colours of the cowl the last lady was wearing.

I love the sweater under the orange waders. That's one awesome collection of knits!

That little girl's yellow hat is so great! I love the flowers at the top instead of pom poms. The Mom's cowl is pretty great too.

Yep, the one under the orange waders for sure! I love how bold & contrast-y it is. Cooool.

I agree with Jenny. And I love the woman's cowl, too. What a cool place Iceland must be.

Yes, I noticed the commercial too. Loved the multiple knits: the Mom is wearing not only a sweater but a knit scarf too.

I liked the song so I looked up from my knitting...!!!!.... freaked, pushed record, and took dozens of pictures of my cheap TV with the cheap camera on my cheap phone (satellite costs Money and I mostly listen, because, duh, knitting). It took me over half an hour because....if you don't know why, it's because you're still an infant who won't be able to imagine such a task until you wear bifocals yourself! Thank you SO much for posting your FAR superior photos.

Just got here via a thread on Ravelry about the commercial. I've seen it a couple of times but didn't pay any attention to what is was for. I was so distracted by the scenery. And I didn't even notice the sweaters because I was so distracted by the scenery - LOL! We spent 5 days in Iceland and after a couple of days the sweaters just become part of the scenery and it's all wonderful.
But the really weird thing is - my husband has been shopping for a new printer for me so we went to Costco today to buy the one he chose, brought it home, et voila! It's the same printer. I didn't even realize the commercial was for a printer! much less for an HP that has all the features I wanted.
And Iceland is every bit as wonderful as It looks in that great commercial. Drop everything except your knitting and GO!

But what about the lyrics? I can't understand the last line--except don't I hear a faint British accent? Or Aussie? Or ???

OK,I hate to be That Person, but the Noro is Faux-ro. Rowan Tapestry or something like? Nice but the color changes are too few and too regular for Noro.
I bet if you got Ragga on this she could find out who did it in 5 minutes. Everybody doesn't know everybody else, but if they chat for 5 minutes they can figure out how they're related.
LOVE IT. xox Kay

great commercial and the song is performed by Fun Boy Three with Bananarama. They are doing a cover of T'ain't What You Do (It's the Way That You Do It).

After hearing that commercial, did anybody else sing "Hey, Macarena!"?
