I'm such an East Coast girl, but I also have roots in Toronto, Texas, the Pacific Northwest and most of all, Chicago (my home town). As a nativized Bostonian (sic), I do have a tendency to forget about what lies west of the Hudson, indulged as I am by the homogeneity of pop culture where so much revolves around Eastern Standard Time. So I'm going to shake off some of these cobwebs, pack a suitacase full of knitting, and head out.
Sincere Sheep Brooke is always telling me how wonderful and extensive the West Coast fiber community is: equal at least to our own here in New England. To prove it, she's talked me into flying into Los Angeles this coming weekend for the winter TNNA show, and also to join her and Lora Jean of Knitted Wit to host a trunk show at Unwind Yarn in Burbank this coming Thursday (January 31st).
Happily enough, Thursday is also Unwind's Anniversary Party, celebrating nine years of fabulous yarniness so storied and resonant that even my local knit peeps -- limited Atlantocentrics that they are --- have heard of this great shop. Brooke, LoraJean, and I will be there along with the champagne, showing off beautiful hand dyed, organic, and natively sourced yarn, and holding up the sweaters for people to try on. I'll have all my samples, including Takoma, Hiro, and Folly Cove, along with two sneak peek sweaters that I'm very excited about.
If you happen to be a knitter in Los Angeles who can be moved out of your cozy spot on Thursday, and would like to prove to this Yankee how awesome are the knitters out your way, please come! Stephanie would like for you to sign up ahead of time so she knows how much bubbly to put on ice, and I do believe there is a small cover charge which will go toward any purchase you make that night (and how could you resist?) We hope to see you there.
